Facebook’s new News Feed focuses on multimedia [Video]

Facebook New Newsfeed

Facebook has announced a greatly revamped News Feed that hopes to beautify all the content that you consume on the social network. The new News Feed separates the different categories of content, making it easier to get to, say, just photo updates, or music updates, or groups, for example. Mark Zuckerberg says the new design is akin to a "personalized newspaper." The thought behind the changes are that people are sharing more and more multimedia--images, videos, links with previews…so why not take advantage of the screen space and optimize it?

Since there is so much image content being fed into Facebook, work has gone into making images and photo albums larger in the News Feed. Articles and web page snippets have a better summary, along with the logo of the source. Oh, and in case it wasn't obvious, these changes don't just apply to the content that you and your friends are pumping into Facebook--it applies to the advertisements on the service as well. In other words, expect larger, more beautiful ads.

All in all, the new News Feed reminds us of Google+, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. We've been using the revamped news feed for about a day, and our only complaint lies in the fact that the left-hand navigation area is super sensitive to the mouse pointer, and constantly seems to be sliding open when we don't want it to. You can sign up to get the new update on the News Feed announcement page.
